High potential and gifted education

Naremburn School is committed to helping every student recognise and achieve their personal and educational potential. We provide a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment where students can connect, succeed, and thrive. Working closely with families, carers, and the wider community ensures we understand and nurture each student’s strengths and aspirations.

High Potential and Gifted Education (HPGE) is embedded in our everyday practice. Individual HPGE goals are included in each student’s Personalised Learning and Support Plan (PLSP), guiding differentiated learning programs that offer meaningful challenge, enrichment, and extension through extra-curricular opportunities.

We strive to know our students well so their full range of abilities and needs is recognised. Our teachers create culturally responsive and strengths-based learning environments that value diversity and support students to build confidence and develop essential skills.
We use technology to provide different ways of learning that help students develop their talent, as a part of supporting their overall learning needs.

What is high potential and gifted education?

High potential and gifted education (HPGE) is how our school supports students with advanced learning needs.

We do this through:

Our high potential and gifted education opportunities

Our students engage with HPGE education in the classroom, in our school, and across NSW.

In our classroom

At Naremburn School, HPGE is part of who we are. We know our students, value their strengths, and provide learning opportunities that help them explore their potential and thrive.

  • Supportive learning environments that enable exploration, reflection, and self-assessment
  • Safe and predictable spaces that encourage confidence, positive risk-taking, and perseverance
  • Strengths-based feedback and purposeful goal-setting aligned to individual learning needs
  • Opportunities for leadership within the classroom and learning programs
  • Explicit teaching of critical thinking and problem-solving strategies to extend student thinking
Across our school

We recognise that every student is unique and offer flexible, diverse opportunities for them to explore and extend their strengths outside the classroom.

  • Participation in whole-school inclusion and wellbeing initiatives
  • Wellbeing programs
  • Session Four programs offering enrichment in creative, physical, intellectual and social-emotional domains
  • Leadership, teamwork and vocational skill-building initiatives
  • Collaboration with positive role models who support students’ interests and talents
  • Cross-stage and whole-school projects that celebrate student strengths
Across NSW

Our students have access to a wide range of state-wide programs that provide extension, enrichment, and opportunities to further develop their potential.

  • The Premier’s Sporting Challenge (PSC) promotes whole-school participation in physical activity with leadership pathways and professional learning.
  • The Minister's Student Council is the peak forum for interaction between NSW public school students, NSW Education and the NSW Minister for Education.
