Learning at Naremburn School

At Naremburn School, we teach the NSW curriculum and offer a wide range of subjects to support each student’s learning. Developing literacy and numeracy skills is fundamental for both learning and everyday life. Our teachers use effective teaching strategies to help students achieve their goals.

Sydney Distance Education High School (SDEHS)

For students in Years 9–12, Naremburn School provides curriculum through SDEHS, with classroom support from teachers and SLSOs. Learning can be accessed via paper-based packs or online platforms, with computers provided by the school.

Junior Program (Years 7–10)

The Junior Program is designed for students in Years 7 to 10. Classes are small, with a maximum of 7 students, supported by a Teacher and School Learning Support Officer (SLSO).

Students access a full mainstream curriculum in the core subjects:

  • English
  • Mathematics
  • Science
  • History
  • Geography
  • PDHPE

The program is flexible within a structured educational environment, tailored to each student’s learning style and individual needs.

Curriculum Delivery

  • Years 7 and 8: Students follow a school-based curriculum delivered by the class teacher.
  • Years 9 and 10: Students access the curriculum through Sydney Distance Education High School (SDEHS), supported by Naremburn staff. Students may also choose up to two electives.

In-School Curriculum (Years 7–8)

Students in Years 7 and 8 study the following directly at Naremburn School:

  • Mathematics
  • English
  • Science
  • History
  • Geography
  • PDHPE

  • Sport

The school provides additional support in social skills, healthy eating, and remedial reading, as well as guidance for work experience and pathways to TAFE courses.

Additional Opportunities:

  • Music lessons on Wednesdays and Thursdays.
  • On-site Careers Advisor on Thursdays to assist with TAFE courses and work experience.

Senior Program (Years 11–12)

Naremburn School offers a senior program for students wishing to continue their studies beyond Year 10. Entry to Year 11 requires an application and is available only to students who demonstrate dedication and commitment and feel that mainstream education does not meet their needs.

Staff work with students to tailor programs that support pathways to university, TAFE, apprenticeships, or the workforce. Students are required to attend school regularly and complete all assigned work.

Academic Program

Students in the full academic program receive coursework through SDEHS and must meet all distance education requirements to remain in the Year 11 and 12 class. Students are responsible for keeping up-to-date with their work and addressing any ‘N’ Award warning letters; failure to do so may result in exit from the program.

Vocational Education and Training (VET)

Students enrolled in VET courses must complete all required competencies, including online work and compulsory work placements, to successfully complete their course.
